THE CENTRAL CORE OF THE MOSCOW–CITY MIBC

Address:  Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, Moscow

Design — 2002
Realization — from 2005

The Central Core occupies the sites No. 6, 7, and 8 of the Moscow–City MIBC. The main axial line of the Center composition, oriented from the south–west to the north–east, coincides with the Central Core principal axis. Being 450 m long and 117 m wide, it includes following spaces: the congress hall — at the site No. 6, the shopping and recreation center — at the site No. 7, the hotel — at the site No. 8.

In total, the design provides six underground storeys. Metro station and a light rail metro station are placed on two lower storeys. Parkings occupy three middle storeys. The upper underground storey comprises the shopping center, linked with underground storeys of all sites, surrounding the Central Core, where public and shopping areas are placed as well. Thus, we actually create a real underground city, with the passages to metro stations, Bagration shopping and pedestrian bridge and the STS station.

The above–ground part of the Central Core building complex, comprising sites No. 7 and 8, presents a public space, covered with fully glassed metallic trusses with a bay length of 70 m, a length of 300 m, and a height of 28 m. The space performs the function of a covered urban square. The recreation, shopping and other public centers are located on four levels along its perimeter. The whole space with its dimensions is comparable to the territory of the Red Square.
